# Page Tailors website: build notes for review Preview: https://pagetailors.pages.dev (hidden from search engines). Written 21 October 2026. Purpose of this file: a complete description of what has been built, so another reviewer or tool can suggest improvements. Please suggest changes; do not assume anything below is final. --- ## 1. What the business is Page Tailors is a UK web design studio for small local businesses: dental and health practices, property and letting firms, restaurants and cafes, salons and barbers, nurseries, and trades (electricians, plumbers, builders, roofers and others). What it sells: 1. **A free website check**: thirty technical and customer checks on the business's current site, written up in plain English within one working day, with what each problem costs them. 2. **A made-to-measure website**: a page for every service and every area the business covers, with call, WhatsApp and a form on every page. Websites from £249, fixed quote after the free check, first year of hosting included. 3. **Managed websites**: hosting, security, changes and a monthly report. The owner sends photos of finished work by WhatsApp or email and they are on the site the next working day, captioned and described for search. Who it is aimed at: owners of small businesses (one to ten people) whose website is missing, broken, or does not bring enquiries. Most visitors will arrive on a phone, from a text message, a call or a search. Brand idea: tailoring. Headline "Websites made to fit your business", motto "Measured. Made. Maintained." Off-the-peg templates fit nobody; we measure the business, build the site around its services and areas, and keep altering it as the business changes. - Steps are named Measure (free check), Make (build), Maintain (managed site). - Logo: a page with a stitched gold edge and a needle and thread. Wordmark "PAGE / TAILORS". - The stamp on the home page reads "Free fitting". ## 2. The evidence behind the site Everything on the site is backed by one real check, run in October 2026: - **63,805** small local businesses of **37 kinds** looked at, in London, the Home Counties, and the North and Midlands. Big firms, national chains and the top three results in each search were skipped deliberately. - **41,147** websites found; **34,833** live; **6,314** broken, parked or placeholder; **22,658** (36%) had no website we could find. - Average live site: **4.6** faults. Only **225** (fewer than one in a hundred) had none. - Share of live sites with each fault: no WhatsApp button 68%; images with no description 41%; no business details Google can read (LocalBusiness schema) 36%; no meta description 26%; no main heading (H1) 26%; no canonical tag 21%; phone number not tap-to-call 21%; thin homepage 20%; copyright year out of date 17%; no sitemap 14%; slow 11%; no HTTPS 5%; not mobile-responsive 4%; no page title 2%. - Platforms: WordPress 43%, custom or unidentified 32%, Wix 11%, Squarespace 5%, GoDaddy 3%. - Each industry page shows that industry's own numbers. Highlights: restaurants and salons had the most faults per site (5.4 and 5.2) and about half had no website at all; among trades, carpenters had the most faults (4.9) and pest control and removals the fewest. - No business from the check is ever named on the site. Numbers are used only in aggregate. ## 3. Pages (28) | Page | URL | What it does | |---|---|---| | Home | / | Hero "Websites made to fit your business" + "Measured. Made. Maintained.", industries strip, evidence band, three steps, before/after, industries list, managed-sites band, phone mock-up, FAQ, free check form | | How it works | /how-it-works/ | Check, findings call, build, launch, manage | | Free website check | /free-website-check/ | The thirty checks explained + request form | | What we build | /what-we-build/ | The parts every site gets | | Results | /results/ | What changes and what we measure monthly (no invented results, no client names) | | The evidence | /website-problems/ | The full October 2026 check, fault table with what each fault costs | | Managed websites | /managed-websites/ | Photo-by-WhatsApp updates, hosting, reports | | Industries hub + 16 industry pages | /industries/… | Electricians, gas engineers, plumbers, painters and decorators, pest control, removals, scaffolders, carpenters and joiners, tilers, gardeners and landscapers, roofers, builders, dentists, restaurants and cafes, nurseries and childcare, salons/barbers/clinics. Design - Palette: navy ink #0b1f3a, paper #f3efe6, white #fffdf8, gold accent #e0a526 (dark gold #a9760e for text), WhatsApp green #25d366. - Type: Barlow Condensed 800/700 uppercase for headings, Inter for body. Self-hosted fonts. - Home hero: paper with a fine pinstripe (navy and gold hairlines), a tape-measure strip under the hero, dashed "stitching" outlines on cards. Inner pages still use the drafting-grid background from the earlier design (possible inconsistency). - Illustrations are drawn in code (a website check card scoring 2/10, a phone mock-up, a before/after toggle, a photo-to-gallery flow). No stock photos, no screenshots of other people's websites. - Every page: sticky header, sticky bottom bar on phones (Call, WhatsApp, Free check), a WhatsApp message pre-written for the page the visitor is on, a call-to-action band, footer with industries. - Phone QA at 390 px and desktop QA at 1366 px pass. ## 5. Technical - Static site generated by a Node build script (one HTML file per page), hosted on Cloudflare Pages. - Forms post to a Cloudflare Pages Function (/api/lead) that emails the enquiry and stores it in a KV store. Honeypot field and time trap against spam. GET returns 405. - Strict Content-Security-Policy: no inline scripts, no third-party scripts except a preview-visit beacon on preview hosts. - Structured data: Organization / ProfessionalService, WebSite, WebPage, FAQPage, Service, BreadcrumbList. - Unique title (under 60 characters) and meta description on every page, one H1 each, canonical tags, sitemap.xml, robots.txt that allows search and AI crawlers, llms.txt. - Build gates before every deploy: a privacy sweep (no client names or private data) and an SEO audit (titles, descriptions, headings, links, images); deploy then verifies every key URL live. - Social share image and favicons generated from the logo. ## 6. Copy rules - Plain English for business owners, not developers. Short sentences. - No client names, logos, screenshots, reviews or case studies without written permission. - No invented results or testimonials. The only numbers are the evidence numbers above. - Only one price on the site: "Websites from £249" (fixed quote after the free check). - Studio voice. No founder story, no staff names. ## 7. Placeholders (not final) - Domain: pagetailors.co.uk and pagetailors.com were free on 21 October 2026; not bought yet. - Phone and WhatsApp: a temporary +971 number until a UK number is set up. - Email: a personal mailbox until hello@ on the domain exists. - Opening hours line: "Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm UK time". ## 8. Known gaps and ideas already noted 1. No industry page yet for property managers / letting agents, accountants, clinics, vets, garages (all in the evidence data). 2. Inner pages use the old grid background; the home page uses the pinstripe. 3. The industries strip and lists still read as trade-heavy (12 of 16 industries are trades). 4. No real photography; all visuals are drawn. 5. Ideas from an outside presentation review of another site we built (apply here too): - proper menu on phones, and the main call-to-action the same colour everywhere; - hero image should show the actual service clearly, no muddy overlay; - no image used twice, no awkward crops, no blurry photos; - section intros say plainly what the business does; - compact cards on phones so the page is quick to scan; - long lists (areas, postcodes) as a spaced grid; - tone professional and warm, not corporate; - present our own free check report as desktop then mobile, each row = section, issue, fix, priority (High = broken or blocks an enquiry, Medium = clarity, Low = polish), plus strengths. ## 9. What we would like ideas on - Is "Websites made to fit your business" and the tailoring theme clear to a dentist or letting agent as well as a tradesperson? - What would make a small-business owner who arrived from a text message trust us within ten seconds, with no client names? - Is the free check offer strong enough, and is the form short enough? - Which pages or sections should be cut, merged or added? - Design: does the home page feel premium and distinctive, or generic? What would you change first? - Anything that would hurt search ranking or speed.
